Safety

The Safety Department of NAS Meridian provides guidance and training for all hands, encouraging a safe and healthful environment in which to work and live. The main objective of Safety is to embed a sense of responsibility in the individuals on board. This is accomplished through continual safety inspections, weekly training and a thorough hazardous materials management program. In order to pass on information pertaining to accident prevention and safety awareness, the Safety Department, under the Host Tenant

Agreement, sponsors quarterly and monthly safety meetings with members from all departments on the base. In addition to these meetings, Safety maintains records and statistics on accidents and traffic safety, and conducts safety training to better identify hazardous situations. The office also maintains a large video library on a multitude of safety subjects, which can be checked out for viewing and training.

NAS Meridian is proud to be the recipient of the Chief of Naval Air Training Achievement in Safety Ashore Award six of the last twelve years and of one individual honor from the Chief of Naval Operations in 2004 for Individual Achievement and Support of Naval Safety.
