Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Richard Bong SRA information

Once designated to be a jet fighter base, Richard Bong State Recreation Area is fittingly named after Major Richard I. Bong, a Poplar, WI native who was America's leading air ace during World War II. The air base was abandoned three days before concrete was to be poured for a 12,500-foot runway. Local citizens had the foresight to protect this open space for future generations.

Tyke Hikes - Lapham Peak

Tyke Hikes are short, slow-paced hikes promoting nature and family hiking in an outdoor educational setting. Families with children of all ages are encouraged to come experience Wisconsin's outdoors as they explore portions of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

Hiking is a year-round activity. Enjoy a winter walk on a paved trail through a spectacular section of forest. Please meet at the Homestead Hollow parking lot. A Wisconsin state park sticker is required. Watch for yellow "Ice Age Trail Event" signs to guide you to the meeting locations.

Kettle Moraine SF - Lapham Peak Unit information

The Kettle Moraine and Lapham Peak were formed 10,000 years ago when a glacier covered much of Wisconsin. Lapham Peak's glaciated topography provides excellent hiking, backpacking, and cross-country skiing on lighted trails. Climb a 45-foot observation tower atop the highest point in Waukesha County (1,233 feet above sea level).

Ice Age National Scenic Trail information

The Ice Age Trail is a National Scenic Trail located entirely within Wisconsin. The trail is also one of 42 designated Wisconsin state trails, and the only one specifically designated as a "State Scenic Trail." From Interstate State Park on the Minnesota border to Potawatomi State Park on Lake Michigan, the Ice Age Trail winds for more than 1,000 miles, following the edge of the last continental glacier in Wisconsin.

Letterboxing Adventure

Letterboxing combines elements of hiking and treasure hunting into an activity that the whole family can enjoy. Participants seek out hidden letterboxes by following clues and recording their discovery in their personal journal, stamping the rubber stamp that's found in the letterbox. Drop-in anytime between 10 am and 2:30 pm to go on a letterboxing adventure! We'll have journals for you to take with you or you can bring your own. Stop at the Nature Center to pick up the clues you need for this adventure.

Family Nature Hikes: Winter Bug Hunt

Horicon Marsh Education Center information

Horicon Marsh has been formally recognized as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention of the United Nations. This renowned marsh is now home to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The Wildlife Education Program has been conducted at the marsh since the mid-1980s. This program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and applied management.

Free-ranging Cats - Issues and Solutions: An Evening with Nature Program

Temple, Ph.D., a Beers-Bascom Professor Emeritus in Conservation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Senior Fellow of the Aldo Leopold Foundation, to find out what researchers have uncovered about cat predation on bird and small mammal populations.
