May 19, 2006 - News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Only one week remains for Illinois residents and business owners to call and apply for state and federal assistance to replace losses from the March 11-13 severe storms and tornadoes, which struck central Illinois. The deadline to call and apply for disaster assistance is May 27, 2006. "We don't want anyone to miss out on the assistance they are entitled to," said Ron Sherman, FEMA's federal coordinating officer. "If you suffered damages as a result of the March 11-13 severe storms and tornadoes, please call and apply before the deadline."

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Disaster Recovery Center operating in the CWLP Building, located at 1450 Groth St. in Springfield, will close operations at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, federal and state officials announced today.

April 13, 2006 - News Release

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Disaster Recovery Center operating in the Ace Hardware, located at 1600 W. Wabash Ave in Springfield, will close operations at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 28, federal and state officials announced today. Those affected by the central Illinois severe storms and tornadoes, which struck March 11-13, who still have questions about assistance or still need to apply should call the toll-free application line 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585. The deadline to apply for assistance is May 27; therefore all those affected are encouraged to apply immediately.

Individuals & Household Program (IHP): Provides money and services to people in Presidentially declared disaster areas.

Housing Assistance (HA): Provides assistance for disaster-related housing needs.

Other Needs Assistance (ONA): Provides assistance for other disaster-related needs, such as furnishings, transportation, and medical.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
