Creating Vines

How to import a video to Vine on iOS:

  •  Tap the Camera button.
  •  Select Import. This will expand the bottom half of your screen to reveal your device’s videos.
  •  Select the video that you would like to import and then tap the right arrow  to confirm.
  • Determine which section of the clip you would like to import. Do this by swiping left or right on the trim bar and selecting where you would like the clip to begin.
  • Additionally, you can crop your clip by sliding the thick white line located on the trim bar.
  • Tap Add when you are done.

If your selected clip is less than 6 seconds you will have the opportunity to add another clip from your camera roll, record additional footage, or post as is.

What types of video files can be imported to Vine?

iOS: You can import H.264 .mp4 files or .mov files.

Android: You can import H.264, .mp4 or VP8.webm files.

What are the minimum system requirements for using the import feature on Vine?

Vine video import is supported by iOS 6 or later and Android 4.x devices.

Why don’t I see any videos when tapping the import icon on iOS?

Make sure that Vine has access to your photos. To do this:

  • Open your device’s settings.
  • Tap on Privacy.
  • Tap on Photos.
  • Make sure Vine is turned on.

Can I combine multiple video clips from my device in one Vine post?

Yes! You can add as many as you’d like as long as it fits the six second maximum. Once you import a video we’ll show you how much time you have left after you tap Add (the green bar at the top indicated how much time you have used). If you still have time, you can tap on the import icon to add another clip from your device or capture original footage to add to your import!

Can I edit Vines before posting?

Yes, you can rearrange and remove clips before posting. When you have finished shooting your video, Vine will show you a preview of your post. If you like the way it looks, tap the checkmark to post. If not, you can tap “Edit” at the top right of the screen.

From the edit screen, you have the options to rearrange or cut certain clips. To change the order of your clips, tap one of the individual shots and then hold and drag it to where you desire. To remove a clip from the video completely, tap the shot and then hold and drag it to the top of the screen until a red bar appears. Release the clip once it’s hovering over the red bar.

Can I save Vine drafts for later use?

Yes! Vine allows you save up to ten sessions.  This means you can simultaneously work on up to ten Vines at once. This comes in handy if you want to finish shooting your Vine at a later time while capturing others in the meantime.

To save your Vine session, tap on the sessions icon at the bottom right of the screen while shooting. Then tap “Save for later”. Once saved, the session icon will reflect how many sessions you have saved.

How do I delete a video I posted on Vine?

You can delete any video you’ve uploaded by navigating to the post on Vine and tapping on the icon with three dots just below the video. Select “Delete this post” and the video will be deleted and removed from your account. Please note that it may take a few minutes for the post to be removed from your followers’ timelines.

If your post was shared to Twitter or Facebook, the Tweet or Facebook update will still appear, along with a link to the post, but the video will not play.

Deleting posts is a permanent action. There is no way to retrieve a deleted post.

What is the “sensitive posts” setting, and when should I use it?

The sensitive posts setting allows you to label your posts for the appropriate viewers. Music on Vine

How do I add music to my Vines?

  1. Record your Vine! If you need help with this, check out our help center article.
  2. When you are ready to add music to your Vine, head to the Details screen by tapping the arrow at the top right of your screen.
  3. Tap the music note button at the bottom left of your screen.
  4. From here, you can explore our new Featured Tracks section to add songs selected by our editorial team. You can also select your own songs and sounds from your device. Reminder: When adding tracks from your device, only use audio tracks that you made or have the necessary rights to use. Respect others’ copyrights.
  5. Determine which section of the song you would like to use. Do this by swiping left or right on the trim bar and selecting where you would like the music to begin.
  6. With Snap to Beat, you can create a never-ending, or seamless, loop and add it to your Vine. Snap to Beat trims your video to match the music’s beat for a seamless loop. You can shorten or extend the seamless loop by dragging the white bar to the white music notes.
  7. You can turn off Snap to Beat for more control over the placement of music in your Vine. Swipe left or right on the trim bar as before, and drag the white bars to the part of the video in which you would like to add audio.
  8. When you’re done, tap add at the top right corner of your screen.

You can further edit the audio and video of your Vine on the Details screen before publishing.

What are Featured Tracks?

The Featured Tracks section brings you a new way to discover music on Vine by providing songs selected by our team for you to use in your Vines. When adding music to your Vine, you’ll see Featured Tracks at the top of your screen. Select a song to add to your Vine, or check out what’s been recently added.

How does Vine choose Featured Tracks?

Vine’s editorial team closely monitors trends and content to feature. A number of factors influence our selections, but we aim to choose music that we think our community will enjoy.

What is Snap to Beat?

Snap to Beat identifies how much of a song to use to make a seamless loop and then trims your video to fit that clip. With seamless audio looping right in our mobile apps, you can make Vines that sound awesome and feel like magic — something that’s only possible with Vine.

Do I have to use Snap to Beat?

No! If you want to edit audio separately, simply turn off Snap to Beat. This will give you more control over how much of the sound to include in your Vine and which specific part it should play over – perhaps you want to add a sound effect to the end of your Vine for a dramatic effect.

Does Snap to Beat always create seamless loops?

Snap to Beat helps you create seamless loops by identifying how much of a song to use for a seamless loop. Then, you get to choose which specific part of the song to use. There may be some songs where the beat and lyrics make a seamless loop not possible.

What does the music note mean?

The struggle to figure out what song is playing in a Vine is over! When you see the music note on a Vine, tap it to reveal information about the track.

Why don’t all Vines with music show the music note?

You’ll see the music note when we can identify which song is behind the Vine. We’re working to bring this to as many Vines as possible.

Can I add music from my other music apps?

You can explore Featured Tracks to add music to your Vines, or you can use your own songs and sounds from your device. Reminder: When adding tracks from your device, only use audio tracks that you made or have the necessary rights to use. Respect others’ copyrights.

Can I add clips from multiple songs on my Vines?

Vine supports one audio clip per Vine at this time.

What is the audio remix feature on Vine?

Remixes, remakes, and collaborations help make the Vine ecosystem fun and vibrant. With the audio remix feature, you have the power to participate in trends like Duck Army and Why You Lyin by reinterpreting, collaborating, or remixing the audio from any publicly shared Vine on the network.

How do I remix audio?

Please note that audio remix is currently only available on iOS.

Tap “…” under the Vine you’d like to remix

Tap “Make an audio remix”

This takes you to our camera, with the audio preloaded in the progress bar

Create your Vine by recording or uploading video

Enjoy your remix!

Will I get credit for my original audio?

It’s important to us to credit creators for their work. If you tap the gray music note at the bottom right corner of a Vine, you will see a link to the original Vine from which the remix was created.

How can I see other Vines with the same audio remix?

Our audio discovery tool allows you to find Vines that use the same audio clip, giving you entirely audio-centric feeds to watch. To see the source Vine and other remixes of the Vine you’re watching, tap the music note under the video and then tap the arrow that points to the right. In addition to these new feeds, we’ve also added song metadata as an input to Search. This means that when you search for a song in our Explore page, you’ll see Vines that use that track.

I don’t want my Vines to be remixed. What do I do?

You can set your account to private if you do not want others to remix  the audio from your Vines. To protect your posts, navigate to your Profile and then select “Settings” and “Your Content.” On the “Your Content” page, check “Posts are protected.” This setting applies to all of your posts.

What is favoriting and how do I do it?

Favoriting a user or channel makes it possible for you to more closely follow the users you like best! Simply tapping the star at the top right corner of a user’s profile will make them a favorite. This means that you will receive a push notification and a notification in your Activity feed every time your favorites post a Vine. At any time, you can view all your favorites or update your notifications from Settings within the app.

Adding an Email

When adding an email account to your Vine, go to your Settings and scroll down. You will see a section to type in your email! Be sure to confirm your address.

Once you’ve added an email address to your Vine account in your profile settings, you can delete the connection to Twitter and then reconnect using a different Twitter account.

How do I share a video posted on Vine to Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook?

You can share posts on Vine to Twitter or Facebook by visiting your profile settings and adding a Twitter or Facebook account under “Social Networks.” Once you’ve added a Twitter or Facebook account, you’ll have the option to share to that service each time you post a video.
