Environmental Assessment for City of Crockett Community Safe Room Project, Crockett, Houston County, Texas (July 2011)
The City of Crockett, through the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), has
applied to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for Hazard Mitigation Grant
Program (HMGP) funding for the construction of a community safe room to protect the local
population from extreme wind events in Crockett, Houston County, Texas. The purpose of HMGP is to reduce the loss of life and property due to natural disasters and to enable mitigation measures to be implemented during the immediate recovery from a disaster. HMGP is authorized under Section 404 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. This EA has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, the President’s Council on Environmental Quality regulations to implement NEPA (40 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 1500-1508), and FEMA’s regulations implementing NEPA (44 CFR Part 10).
