Environmental Assessment for Pittsboro Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, Pittsboro, North Carolina (November 2010)

The Pittsboro Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, Inc. (PVFRD) proposes to construct a new firefighting / emergency response building in the Asbury Community in southern Chatham County, North Carolina (NC), to fully equip that facility and to man it full-time (24/7). The proposed new station will serve the Asbury Community and will provide quicker emergency response and increase public safety. The new station will also serve as a “safe place” in the event of natural disaster. The substation would also increase PVRFD’s ability to provide automatic/mutual aid to neighboring departments in Chatham County and Lee County in a timely manner. This environmental assessment document will serve the latter requirement. It has been prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, the President’s Council on Environmental Quality regulations to implement NEPA (40 Code of Federal regulations Parts 1500 – 1508), and FEMA’s regulations implementing NEPA (44 CFR Part 10).
