Fairchild Air Force Base is committed to a policy of excellence in all four pillars of environmental stewardship:
Compliance, Pollution Prevention, Protecting Natural and Cultural Resources, and Restoration. In doing so, we
will comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations and policies. We have consistently gone beyond
mere compliance with the law and insisted on maximum protection for human health, natural resources, and the
environment. As a premier Air Refueling Wing, we are proud to have developed a reputation for first-class
environmental practices and collaborative implementation of environmental standards throughout all aspects of
base activities. To maintain this tradition, the men and women of Fairchild will continue to:
a. Maintain an effective Environmental Management System (EMS), promote the use of safe technologies and
operational practices, and remain ready to respond to emergencies in order to improve our environmental
performance and minimize adverse impacts to installation workers, their families, and the environment. Be an
active partner in regional and local environmental concerns including protecting water and air quality, historic
preservation, and proper management of all wastes.
b. Through the subject matter expertise of the environmental program managers and the leadership of the EMS
Cross-Functional Team and the Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health Council (ESOHC), set
environmental objectives and targets, measure progress, and take corrective action when necessary. Communicate
results and other environmental information regarding the installation’s operations and its environmental
accomplishments to workers, the community, suppliers, regulators and the public.
c. Investigate and evaluate new and innovative technologies and practices as appropriate, establish and
implement an effective pollution prevention program, minimize the generation of wastes, recycle materials
otherwise destined to become waste when possible, and dispose of any remaining wastes in an environmentally
responsible manner.
d. Sustain, restore, and modernize the natural infrastructure while
protecting against any encroachment that impacts the natural infrastructure
resources that support our mission.
e. Encourage an environmental culture across all levels of management,
enhance relations with regulatory agencies, and partner with stakeholders to
promote resource conservation and protection of human health and the
environment.
It is incumbent upon everyone in the Fairchild community to fulfill the
obligations set forth in this policy statement to the utmost of their abilities
in accordance with their roles and responsibilities on the base. This policy,
as set forth and supported by all members of the Team Fairchild ESOHC,
will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary. The ESOHC will also
ensure that these expectations are clearly explained to all base personnel.
