The billionaire founder of Corona beer has reportedly made his entire home village millionaires in his will. Antonino Fernandez, who was born in the Spanish village of Cerezales del Condado in 1917, emigrated to Mexico to make his fortune but clearly hasn’t forgotten his roots. The drinks mogul left the 80 residents of his home village $2.5 million each. Fernandez died in August at the ripe old age of 99. His will left $210 million to the residents of the village in Spain’s Leon province where he grew up in deep poverty as one of 13 siblings. He left school at 14 because his family couldn’t afford the fees. As a 32-year-old, Antonino emigrated to Mexico with his wife in 1949 to make his fortune,
New York PostGRAND RAPIDS - A Grand Rapids man convicted in a brutal home invasion and assault of college students in which a young woman was raped returned to a Kent County courtroom for resentencing this week, but it did not change the outcome. Rederick Louis Melton received the same sentence he got three years ago; a minimum of 43 years in prison for the June, 2012 attack on college students on Veto Street near Seward Avenue NW. Several young men were pistol-whipped; a woman was beaten and raped. “I’ve been on the bench almost 30 years now. Outside of murder cases, this and one other case are the worst I’ve seen,’’ Kent County Circuit Court Judge George S. Buth said. On mobile? Watch video here: http://on.wzzm.com/2gntBQG
Detroit Free PressAfter starting the process to adopt three brothers who had spent more than four years in foster care, Julie Washington received some surprising news from a Georgia caseworker last year: Children’s Protective Services had just learned about a fourth brother, a toddler named Elijah, who also needed a home. Seeking advice, Julie phoned her friend, Jay Houston, a photographer and mother of five, including three adopted kids, who lives minutes away. Three days later, she was stunned when Jay called back and said, “We’d like to adopt Elijah so that he can be close to his brothers and they can know each other growing up.
PeopleHe leads a fringe movement of 'Sandy Hook truthers' who promote hateful conspiracy theories. This Thanksgiving, I sat at a dinner table with an empty seat. It’s the very seat where my mother, Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung, should be. Smiling, laughing and enjoying a holiday meal with her daughters and grandchildren. Instead, my mom wasn’t there because nearly four years ago, she was murdered in Newtown, Conn., along with five of her colleagues and 20 first-graders. That day, as the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary School, she died a hero trying to protect her innocent students. My heart - and my dinner table - reflect the hole in my life that will never be repaired. And while I’ve chosen a path
USA TodayI should probably admit that my family did not need a new car. Or even a new used car. In fact, we didn’t even need the two older used cars that we have been keeping around for the last five years, because our local life has blossomed so nicely here in the sunny, walkable oasis of Longmont, Colo., that there is really nothing outside of cycling distance, aside from the odd trip to the Denver airport. If I were still my real retired self (circa 2005-2011), we probably would have sold these vehicles and gone blissfully car-free, combining bikes and bike trailers with car sharing, carpooling, rentals, and Uber/Lyft rides for our trips out of town, which only average twice per month. The money savings

Harper's BazaarA ceramic vessel bearing the sculpture of a pensive-looking figure has been found in the Israeli city of Yehud. Archaeologists found the artifact during excavations in advance of a new housing development. "It seems that at first the jug, which is typical of the period, was prepared, and afterwards, the unique sculpture was added, the likes of which have never before been discovered in previous research," Gilad Itach, the IAA excavation director, said in a statement.
LiveScience.comMusician, performer, producer, designer (and, of course, husband of Kim Kardashian and father to North and Saint West) Kanye West was hospitalized on Monday, Nov. 21, just after the multi-hyphen-mogul canceled the remainder of his “Saint Pablo” tour earlier that day. Sources told the press that West felt like he was experiencing a “spiritual attack,” and that November is always hard for him because it’s the month when his mother died. Donda West, an English professor as well as her son’s manager, died in November 2007 from heart disease after plastic surgery. This week alone, West exhibited some unusual behavior while on tour for his newest album, The Life of Pablo.
