Sports & Recreation

Some folks come to the Y to get a healthy dose of sports and recreation. For Suren, coming to the States on his own and joining the Y was much more than he expected. This is his Y. His camera. His story.

Lonnie Conley

YMCA of Greater Omaha

"I Have a New Purpose in Life."

Accidents happen. For Lonnie, coming out on the other side meant crossing the finish line for the first time. Just ask any of her running club friends, and they'll sum up this budding racer in a few words: "Dream big. Success is a journey." This is her Y. Her camera. Her story.

"It's More than Just Working Out."

Kevin wants to take you outside the doors of the Y and show you how the community spirit lives on, South Carolina style—from serving in the Marines, to finding peace in his neck of the woods. This is his Y. His camera. His Story.

"Pickle Ball Might Just Be the Fastest Growing Sport in the Country!"

Part tennis. Part ping-pong. A little bit of dodge ball.  And throw in some badminton. Call it what you want, but Marshall Pura wants to put pickle ball on the map and in your community. This is his Y. His camera. His story.

Lauren Collins

Baxter YMCA

"Basketball Brought Us Back Together Again."

When Lauren and her friends went their separate ways off to college, they never thought they'd be playing basketball together again. It wasn't until the Y started a women's sport league that they discovered that laughter and good times never change. This is their Y. Their camera. Their story.

At the Y, sports and recreational activities are something special. Friendly competition (even with yourself), lots of variety and a supportive environment means team sports and recreation is fun again, and it makes for a healthier lifestyle and a good story or two.

Adult Team Sports

Whether you miss “suiting up” or are new to team sports, the Y’s sports leagues provide a perfect opportunity to be active, social and to reconnect or start fresh with a sport you love. Basketball, soccer, hockey, tennis, volleyball and golf are just some of the options available to get you back on the court or on the field.

Recreation

So many activities serve to restore our spirits and energy, get us outdoors or test our limits. And for many of us, they’re the foundation of active living and rewarding relationships. Cycling, hiking, running, wall climbing, racquetball, swimming and many more recreational activities are available at your Y. Instruction, lessons and group trips are likely part of the mix, so it may be time for you to try something new.
