Community EngagementCommunity Engagement

As the U.S. Air Forces in Europe's largest fighter wing, the 48th Fighter Wing, also known as the Liberty Wing, brings unique air combat capabilities to the fight, providing all-weather, day-or-night air superiority and air-to-ground precision combat capability as well as combat search-and-rescue capabilities. Along with providing worldwide responsive combat air power and support to meet our nation's and international allies' objectives, we are also devoted to our community, which extends well beyond our gates and into the villages, towns and cities many Liberty Airmen call home.

Base Tour Program

Thank you for your interest in the RAF Lakenheath's tour program. The 'Liberty Wing' welcomes visitors to the base; it gives you a better understanding of the 48th Fighter Wing's mission in East Anglia and gives us a chance to meet our neighbors.

Base tours are held on the first and third Fridays, 11:30-3:30 p.m. We are unable to accommodate visits on a weekend or U.S. holiday.

The purpose of our base tours are to provide visiting personnel a better understanding of our mission, and receive an up-close look into what it takes to keep our base operational. Our goals are to increase public awareness and understanding of the armed forces and the mission, policies, and programs of the U.S. Air Force.

Photos can be taken of certain entities on base, however, the tours are NOT designed to be used as a photographic event. We aim to show your group a full spectrum of areas on base and this may include areas such as static displays, operation support units and static memorials.

If your group is interested in photo opportunities, RAF Lakenheath provides a viewing area optimal for photographs over-looking our flightline. For directions and more information about the area, please view this link.http://aircraftspotting.co.uk/suffolk-airports-airfields-viewing-guides.php.

*Please note: An individual may attend a base tour only ONCE every 2 years due to the high volume of requests.

To request a tour, please complete the RAF Lakenheath Tour Request Form and return it to 48th Fighter Wing Public Affairs office.

Certain conditions and restrictions apply to all base tours, which can be discussed once your request is received. Here are a few to consider:
  • Due to the base flying schedule and the high volume of requests to visit RAF Lakenheath, not every group can be offered a tour.
  • Groups wishing to visit the base must have a minimum of 25 people and maximum of 40 people. Tours of more than 40 individuals are not allowed.
  • All tour requests and Base Authorization Lists (BALs) must be typed, NOT handwritten.
  • Children under the age of 13 are not allowed on tours for safety reasons.
  • Tours are not provided to individuals, non-organized groups, or groups of children under age 13
  • At least one adult chaperone per eight children is required with groups consisting of children ages 13 to 15
  • Unscheduled tours are NOT allowed
  • Groups must provide their own transportation. Most groups book a coach or a minibus for their visit.
  • For security purposes, all base visitors, age 13 or older, must provide identification on the day of the tour. The ID MUST be current, have a photo and have an expiration date. Accepted IDs include passports, driver's licenses, over-60 bus passes and Ministry of Defense IDs.

speaker's bureau

The RAF Lakenheath's speaker program gives Air Force personnel the chance to directly interact with its neighbors in the community, professional organizations, schools, businesses and civic organizations. Our speakers consist of personnel from a wide-array of job descriptions and include personnel from the rank of airman first class to colonel.

Most organizations request speakers to talk about the F-15s, RAF Lakenheath's mission, and specific job descriptions or personal experiences in the Air Force. Your organization may request those topics listed above or anything else you feel appropriate. We will try to match up a speaker to your specific request.

If you would like to schedule a speaker for one of your organization's meetings, please call the public affairs office at 01638 522 151, DSN 226-2151 or email 48fw.pa@us.af.mil

Please allow at least three weeks prior to your meeting date when making a request.
