Images, photographs, audio and video files and other works created by DARPA or its systems engineering and technical assistance contractors (“DARPA works”) and posted on the DARPA website may be used for educational or informational purposes, including, for example, photo collections, textbooks, public exhibits, web pages, and television programs/documentaries. Exceptions and restrictions to this policy are noted below. This permission extends to personal Web pages. DARPA should be acknowledged as the source of its works. It is not necessary to obtain a written license for non-exclusive use of these works.
This permission does not extend to works created by other (third) parties.
DARPA images, photographs, audio and video files and other works may not be used to state or imply the endorsement by DARPA, the Department of Defense (DoD) or any DARPA employee of a product, service or non-Federal entity, or used in any other manner that might mislead or reflect poorly on DARPA or DoD.
These guidelines apply to copyrighted and public domain works only. Separate, written trademark licenses are required for use of any DARPA trademarks or logos.
It is unlawful to falsely claim copyright or other rights in DARPA or third party works.
DARPA shall in no way be liable to any person for any costs, expenses, claims or demands arising out of non-DARPA use of DARPA’s or third parties’ works. Others’ use of third party works does not imply endorsement of such parties or their products or services.
DARPA does not sign indemnity or hold harmless statements, release from copyright infringement, or similar documents.
If images, photographs, audio and video files and other works posted on DARPA’s website are copyrighted, permission should be obtained from the copyright owner prior to use.
If a recognizable person appears in a photograph, use for commercial purposes may infringe a right of privacy or publicity and permission should be obtained from the recognizable person.
Use of a portion or segment of an audio or video file, such as a recognizable person or talent, narration or music, may infringe a right of publicity, privacy or copyright, and permission should be obtained from the rights holder prior to use.
DARPA websites may be linked to or from other websites, including individuals' personal websites, without explicit permission from DARPA. However, such links may not explicitly or implicitly convey DARPA's or DoD’s endorsement of goods or services or linking entities.
DARPA images may be used as graphic "hot links" to DARPA websites, provided they are used within the guidelines above. This permission does not extend to the use of any DARPA logo or trademark.
