The Joint Commission National Quality Approval Emblem

The 78th Medical Group supports the war and peacetime mission of the 78th Air Base Wing, Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, and over 30 associate units representing six major commands. The Group Consist of a diverse military healthcare facility with over 470 personnel assigned to four squadrons providing healthcare for over 47,000 military and civilian personnel.

Additionally, the 78th MDG has the second largest Occupational and Bioenvironmental operations in the Air Force supporting 22,000 personnel. The 78th MDG is accredited by The Joint Commission and fully supports medical readiness for 6,500 military personnel.

The group is comprised of four squadrons:

The 78th Aerospace Medicine Squadron enables combat power through disease prevention, medical intervention, occupational and environmental health programs and preparation for medical contingencies. A staff of approximately 134 healthcare professionals organized into seven flights provide medical services to nearly 30,000 personnel and their families, preventive integrated health care through public health, bioenvironmental engineering, optometry, audiology and health promotion activities. They also conduct physical examinations and monitoring programs that are necessary to ensure a fit force to support base operational missions.

The 78th Medical Support Squadron (MDSS) supports healthcare delivery by managing a group budget of $22.8 million a year and manpower programs for more than 450 staff members. The managed care program supports an enrollment population of 47,000 beneficiaries amounting to over 76,000 clinical and ancillary visits each year. The squadron consists of nine sections combined into seven flights providing personnel and administration, resource management, TRICARE Operations and Patient Administration, medical readiness, information management, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and logistics which includes medical equipment repair and facility management.

The 78th Medical Operations Squadron provides comprehensive primary care and limited referral and space-available subspecialty care to TRICARE-enrolled patients at the medical group. The squadron is comprised of four flights: Family Health, Mental Health, Physical Therapy and Maternal-Child. They have a combined strength of over 100 assigned personnel. Available services include: behavioral health, family advocacy, family medicine, immunization, mental health, pediatrics, primary care, substance abuse counseling and therapeutic exercise. Combined, these clinics average more than 2,600 patient visits per month totaling approximately 31,000 visits per year.

The 78th Dental Squadron provides a full array of dental services for Active Duty military members to include Comprehensive General Dentistry, Periodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Prosthodontics. Families of active duty military members are highly encouraged to enroll in the TRICARE Dental Program in order to obtain dental care from a civilian dentist in the community as space-available emergency care for dependent families is extremely limited. Likewise, emergency dental care for retired military members and their family is also very limited and is only provided on a space available basis.
