ATLANTA, Ga. -- Kentuckians who sustained damage from the June 19-23 storms have only two more weeks to register for assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). “Two weeks may sound like plenty of time, but October 31 will be here before you know it,” said FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer W. M. Moore. “If you had damage and haven’t registered yet, please do so before it’s too late.”

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- According to the Kentucky Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, one of the main reasons survivors do not register for disaster assistance is because they think it affects other benefits they receive. "If you receive FEMA and Commonwealth disaster assistance, it does not affect your Social Security benefits," said John Heltzel, director of Kentucky Emergency Management and commonwealth coordinating officer for Kentucky. "As well, the assistance is not taxable."

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- More than $1.4 million in disaster grants and loans for eligible individuals in three Kentucky counties has been approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Kentucky Emergency Management Agency (KYEM). Bell, Knox and Perry counties received a presidential disaster declaration for individual assistance on Sept. 1 to help Kentuckians affected by June's storms.

The letter explains the current status of an individual's disaster assistance application.
