ALBANY, N.Y. – State and federal Disaster Recovery Centers in five New York counties will close soon, according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Facilities in Essex, Nassau, Rensselaer, Suffolk and Ulster counties will end operations at the close of business on Saturday, October 1. ALBANY, N. Y. – Some New Yorkers affected by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee may receive a letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) saying their disaster assistance application has been denied. “A denial letter does not necessarily mean that an applicant is not eligible for assistance,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Philip E. Parr. “It may mean that FEMA does not have all the information needed to make a decision regarding the applicant’s disaster aid.”
ALBANY, N.Y. – Federal and state emergency management officials announced today that three more Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers (MDRCs) will open for three days, beginning on Wednesday, to assist individuals, households and businesses affected by Hurricane Irene. Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers in Greene, Orange and Washington counties will be open from Wednesday, September 28, through Friday, September 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. After Friday the mobile DRCs will be deployed to other locations, but will return to each county at a date yet to be determined.

ALBANY, N.Y. – New Yorkers who receive disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) after Hurricane Irene or Tropical Storm Lee will not pay additional taxes, lose their Social Security benefits or other government benefit programs. Disaster assistance for temporary housing, home repair, to repair or replace personal property, or for other serious needs does not count as income and will not be taxed.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Inspectors from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are meeting with survivors in New York State whose primary homes were damaged or destroyed by the flooding from Hurricane Irene or Tropical Storm Lee. Inspectors are private contractors who wear official FEMA identification badges. Authorized inspectors will only confirm personal detailed information that the applicant has provided previously during the registration process.
