ALBANY, N.Y. -- The state and federal Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Rockland County will close Thursday, October 13, at 8 p.m., according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).   Several DRCs remain open to serve the public. People who were unable to visit the Rockland facility closing Thursday can seek information and guidance at those facilities that continue to operate throughout the area affected by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Currently, most of these centers are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Senior citizens, especially those with medical issues and limited mobility, can be vulnerable in the event of a disaster. But even if you have physical limitations, you can still protect yourself by having a personal disaster plan in place. Local, state and federal officials are urging all Americans, especially senior citizens, to review, update and rehearse their disaster plans. By looking ahead, seniors can be prepared for any disaster, natural or manmade.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Federal and state emergency management officials said today that a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center (MDRC) will open for three days in New Paltz on Monday, Oct. 10, to assist individuals, households and businesses affected by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. The MDRC will be open through Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the New Paltz Town Hall, 130 North Chestnut Street.

ALBANY, N.Y. – Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) throughout New York state will be open on Columbus Day, October 10, state and federal officials said today. All DRCs in the state are operational daily except Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. until further notice. The centers are staffed with disaster recovery specialists who can provide information and answer questions about storm-related assistance. FEMA strongly urges people adversely affected by the recent storms and flooding to register with FEMA before visiting the facilities.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency joins the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in urging New Yorkers who have applied for disaster aid to complete and return their loan applications promptly. The sooner flood survivors complete the application, the sooner decisions regarding federal aid can be made. Filling out the SBA application is a necessary step to being considered for some forms of disaster assistance.

ALBANY, N. Y. -- After Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee hit New York State in late August and early September, residents in declared counties became eligible for federal assistance. Yet some people who suffered losses and damage in the wake of the disaster have failed to seek help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). “There are many misconceptions about getting help,” said FEMA’s Federal Coordinating Officer Philip E. Parr.  “Often people who would qualify for assistance miss out because they are mistaken or misinformed.”
