The Boston MEPS was activated as the Armed Forces Examining and Entrance Station (AFEES) on July 1, 1965. AFEES Boston was redesignated MEPS Boston on January 1, 1982, and moved to its present location on the fourth floor of the Barnes Building on February 8, 1982. It was further redesignated as Boston MEPS in June 1983.
The Boston MEPS is one of a network of 65 MEPS located nationwide and in Puerto Rico.
A separate Department of Defense (DoD) agency, USMEPCOM is comprised of two geographical sectors and staffed with personnel from all military services.
The mission of USMEPCOM and the Boston MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD-approved peacetime and mobilization standards.
