Passersby Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni Building One on July 16 may have had to look twice when they saw the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer's bright red castle flag flying over the Marine headquarters. Marine Col. Robert Boucher, commanding officer, MCAS Iwakuni, raised the USACE flag over the headquarters building with Lee Seeba, former resident engineer, Iwakuni Resident Office, under the joyful eyes of several Iwakuni Resident Office employees. Boucher flew the engineer castle in Iwakuni as a "thank you" to the Corps' Iwakuni Resident Office for a job well done, after completing a particularly intricate project by deadline. Bert Pechhold, current resident engineer, Iwakuni Resident Office, said the transformation that is occurring at MCAS Iwakuni could not be possible without the leadership and support from Boucher and his staff. "This achievement symbolizes that spirit of cooperation and partnership between the Army and Marines," Pechhold said. Seeba is currently the area engineer for the Japan District’s Okinawa Area Office.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Honolulu District partnered with contractor Nan-Samsung LLC, the U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii, and the 25th Infantry Division’s Combat Aviation Brigade (CAB) to celebrate the mid-point in constructing the two six-story barracks buildings, which are located south of the Wheeler airstrip and part of the overall CAB Complex.

  • Mike Coy, chief of the Real Estate Branch, teaches Sabrina Dornellas, real estate specialist, how to use a laser distance finder April 29 while Michelle Sappa, real estate specialist, holds a target for the required measurement. The Real Estate Branch conducted an inventory of the Alaska District’s buildings on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. The task served as a training opportunity to learn how to measure buildings, sidewalks and record the acquired data. The purpose of the assignment was to verify the real property inventory list and help prepare the real estate instrument that authorizes the district headquarters and its buildings to reside on the installation.

OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER AWARD

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- Bruce Sexauer (right), chief of the Alaska District's Civil Works Branch, was recognized by the FIRST Lego League in Alaska with an Outstanding Volunteer Award. One volunteer is presented with this award at each competition throughout the year amounting to about a half dozen in total. Currently, Sexauer is serving his seventh year as a volunteer with the organization and has judged, coached and now referees for the Head Robot Game in Alaska. Additionally, he volunteers as an emcee at the high school level, FIRST Tech Challenge. Our professionals are dedicated to promoting the studies of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to our nation's youth.
