About the R-2508 Airspace

The R-2508 Complex includes all the airspace and associated land presently used and managed by the three principal military activities in the Upper Mojave Desert region:

  • Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake
  • National Training Center, Fort Irwin
  • Air Force Test Center, Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
The R-2508 Complex is composed of internal restricted areas, Military Operations Areas, Air Traffic Control Assigned Airspace areas, and other special use airspace.

Use of these areas include bombing ranges, supersonic corridors, low altitude high speed maneuvers, radar intercept areas, and refueling areas.

Prior to flying within the 2508 Complex, all pilots must receive the 2508 Airspace Brief provided by the 2508 Airspace Management Office. Contact the R-2508 Airspace Office by e-mail, phone or postal mail. R-2508 Office hours are Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed weekends and holidays. Several documents are available to the right including an R-2508 User's Handbook and various forms for airspace use.
