“Abrazo Ceremony” on the Juárez-Lincoln International Bridge

Secretary Jeh Johnson and Jose Antonio Meade, the Mexican Secretary for Social Development, at the International Bridge Ceremony On Feb. 20, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson traveled to Laredo, Texas, where he participated in an International Bridge Ceremony, also known as the “Abrazo Ceremony,” on the Juárez-Lincoln International Bridge. The ceremony was followed by a parade and is part of a 119-year-old tradition honoring George Washington’s Birthday.

DHS to Streamline Regulations Related to Flights from Cuba

At the direction of the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection will initiate a rule change regarding flights to and from Cuba. This action follows U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Transportation announcements that the United States will re-establish scheduled flights between the United States and Cuba.

United States Announces Trilateral Agreement with Canada and Mexico to Expand Trusted Traveler Programs

WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has joined Public Safety Canada and the Secretariat of Governance of Mexico in outlining the first steps toward the creation of a North American Trusted Traveler network.  The new agreement signed by Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson on July 10, 2015 and his Canadian and Mexican counterparts will make it easier for eligible travelers in the United States, Mexico and Canada to apply for expedited screening programs, helping to promote legitimate travel across the continent.

Report to the President on America’s National Travel and Tourism Goal

Over the last five years, more than 333 million international visitors have traveled to the United States. Growth in spending from these visitors during this period has supported roughly 280,000 new American jobs. Preliminary estimates show the U.S. welcomed a record 74 million international visitors in 2014 alone, and these travelers spent a record $222 billion on expenses including food, lodging, recreation, gifts, entertainment, and local transportation, supporting 1.1 million jobs.
