Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson met with Mexican Ambassador to the United States Carlos Sada to discuss opportunities for expanded cooperation between DHS and the Mexican Government on a range of homeland security-related issues.
On Feb. 20, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson traveled to Laredo, Texas, where he participated in an International Bridge Ceremony, also known as the “Abrazo Ceremony,” on the Juárez-Lincoln International Bridge. WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has joined Public Safety Canada and the Secretariat of Governance of Mexico in outlining the first steps toward the creation of a North American Trusted Traveler network. The new agreement signed by Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson on July 10, 2015 and his Canadian and Mexican counterparts will make it easier for eligible travelers in the United States, Mexico and Canada to apply for expedited screening programs, helping to promote legitimate travel across the continent.
Over the last five years, more than 333 million international visitors have traveled to the United States. Growth in spending from these visitors during this period has supported roughly 280,000 new American jobs. Preliminary estimates show the U.S. welcomed a record 74 million international visitors in 2014 alone, and these travelers spent a record $222 billion on expenses including food, lodging, recreation, gifts, entertainment, and local transportation, supporting 1.1 million jobs.
