Navy explosives safety policy is based on the requirements of DOD 6055.9-STD, "Ammunition and Explosives Safety Standards." This DOD standard establishes uniform safety requirements applicable to ammunition and explosives and to associated and unrelated personnel and property exposed to the potential damaging effects of an accident involving ammunition and explosives during their development, manufacturing, testing, transportation, handling, storage, utilization, maintenance, demilitarization, and disposal.
