Expeditionary Platforms
The Expeditionary Platforms Department (EPD) manages the Forward Deployable Preventive Medicine Unit program (FDPMU) and provides training and technical support for the Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Units (NEPMU). As program manager, we oversee readiness, and training requirements. We provide expert consultation and evaluation of data collected from occupational, entomological, and environmental health surveillance, health care encounters, and deployed site assessments. Using these data, we scientifically produce products such as Periodic Occupational and Environmental Monitoring Summary (POEMS) that define for leadership the potential acute and chronic health risks associated with military deployments. EPD represent the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) in several important Department of Defense committees related to expeditionary preventive medicine.
