Michael Anthony Coen, Jr.

Michael CoenMr. Coen is the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Chief of Staff. He was first appointed to FEMA by President Barack Obama in 2009.  Prior to that, from 2005 to 2009, he served the State of Louisiana, following hurricanes Katrina and Rita, he provided hands on technical support and assistance to affected Louisiana communities.  He advised and advocated on behalf of local governments including effective communication and coordination with elected and government officials.  He maintained situational awareness of parish by parish recovery and coordinated with the state and FEMA to continually identify trends and appropriate actions to address challenges in the delivery of recovery programs.   He was appointed by President Bill Clinton and served as Assistant to the FEMA Director, 1997 to 2001.  He has also held executive-level appointed positions with the U.S. Department of State and White House Conference on Small Business.  He is a veteran of four Presidential campaigns.  Mr. Coen received a B.A. from Providence College.
