Presidential Transition Team releases U.S. Coast Guard Overview

Election years bring change over within the administration. In order to ensure continuity of operations and a seamless transition from the current administration to the next through thorough planning, preparation, and collaboration across the Coast Guard and with the Departments, the Coast Guard has created a Presidential Transition Team (PTT) to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Presidential Transition Office transition activities. Telling the Coast Guard’s story and how we bring value to the Nation is part of ensuring a seamless transition to the next administration. A “U.S. Coast Guard Overview” booklet and an associated website was developed are now available and can be used in the conduct of various public and external affairs missions throughout the fleet. CG_Ideas@Work solicits and shares workforce innovation; submit your nominations

Formerly known as the Enterprise Common Ideation Platform, or ECIP Connect, CG_Ideas@Work gives all Coast Guard active duty, reserve, civilian and Auxiliary members the opportunity to share their ideas on how to make Coast Guard operations more efficient and effective. Two crowdsourcing challenges are open for your participation:
1) Identifying the primary challenges for the Coast Guard in 10 to 15 years and how to plan for them now, and 2) The Open Idea Forum, a general discussion of good ideas and best practices. The Innovation Program also is accepting nominations for the 2016 Captain Niels P. Thomsen Innovation Awards recognizing the year’s best idea submissions through CG_Ideas@Work. The wrench revolution: R-MATs poised to change how reserve engineering ratings train

Following a successful pilot program, new Reserve Maintenance Assist Teams (R-MAT) will soon work as part of active duty Coast Guard Naval Engineering Departments (NED). Reserve machinery technicians, damage controlmen, and electrician’s mates will be assigned to these teams to better develop their skills, their careers and the Reserve’s ability to respond to daily challenges and historic moments.
