Description

Instantly reach the people in your life—for free. Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).

Not just for Facebook friends: Message people in your phone book and just enter a phone number to add a new contact.

Group chats: Create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place.

Photos and videos: Shoot videos and snap selfies or other photos right from the app and send them with one tap.

Free calls: Talk as long as you want, even with people in other countries. (Calls are free over Wi-Fi. Otherwise, standard data charges apply.)

Even more ways to message:
Bring your conversations to life with stickers.
Preview your camera roll photos and videos without leaving the conversation--then choose the perfect ones to send.
Record voice messages when you have more to say.

Extra features:
Know when people have seen your messages.
Forward messages or photos to people who weren't in the conversation.
Search for people and groups to quickly get back to them.
Turn on location to let people know when you're nearby.
See who's available on Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
Stay logged in so you never miss a message.

Customer Reviews

Please avoid 👎👎👎👎

Bad bad bad. Not secure. Not private. Broken.

Get Signal from Open Whisper Systems or, Threema, or ChatSecure.

WhatsApp has failed almost EVERY criteria in a scathing new online privacy report. Which is owned by FaceBook and this Messenger is just as insecure.

People concerned about keeping their data private should DELETE WhatsApp and steer clear of Google and Microsoft services, a report by the Electronic Frontier Foundation has claimed.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation – dubbed EFF – ranked the biggest technology companies in the world, based on how transparent and protective they are of their users' data.

EFF has been running the report, which is called "Who Has Your Back?", This is the first time popular cross-platform messaged WhatsApp has been included in the report.

FB Messenger was just as bad as WhatsApp in reviews, given that we get treated like garbage of no value. Sure Zuckerberg can buy the houses of all of his neighbors for his privacy, but what about the rest of us?

People, don't use this or WhatsApp until a real update that gives us all real security and privacy. Think about of it this way, would you be fine is anything and everything you've ever sent over this or WhatsApp on the evening news for your family to see? Then don't use either app.

Get Threema, or Signal, or ChatSecure. Take your privacy and security seriously.

That just reminded me.

As of 11/16 still horrible. Newer update allows you to hide the annoying subsections, but once you get another update, it all goes back. Now even the mobile web version pushes you into messenger. Fb is getting carried away with this forcing their app down your throats nonsense. Older review: Notifications. The app acts like you're doing something wrong if you do not have alerts setup. If you don't have a sound notification or a screen alert setup, the app isn't happy. Constantly reminding you to setup notifications. I currently have it set to show on the badge and when I go into my settings it's telling me I need to setup notifications. This app is by far the worst messaging app I have ever used.

Separate App useless

This is getting outrageous. When they first decided to make a separate app just for messaging, I was annoyed, but I conceded to just logging on to Facebook through my phone's web browser like I would on my computer. Now when I try to do that, it tells me I need to go to the Messenger app. This is a major inconvenience for people who do not have enough memory space for tons of apps, and for people with limited cellular data that have to download an app every time they need to check one message. Hopefully my messages aren't urgent, because I won't be downloading the messenger app and hopefully I can still view them on my computer.
