We Are DHS

The Department of Homeland Security ensures that our Nation and its people are safe, secure, and resilient against terrorism and other hazards.

Last week, more than 2,600 personnel from the Department of Homeland Security ensured the safety and security of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. They started their work only hours after completing the same task at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

DHS Night at the Nationals

On May 24, DHS celebrated the second annual “Night at the Nationals.” Over 900 DHS employees, their friends and their families from across the National Capitol Region came together to enjoy the game as one DHS.

EMS Strong: Called to Care

This week is National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, and those of us in the Department of Homeland Security are proud to recognize the EMS responders across the country who serve on the front lines of emergency healthcare. These men and women have chosen to answer the call of a career that demands passion, purpose, and heart. Each plays a critical role in our nation’s health security.

Secretary Johnson Presents Awards for Valor

Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh C. Johnson today presented the 2016 Department of Homeland Security Secretary’s Award for Valor to 13 outstanding individuals who have displayed exceptional valor while serving the Department, or while off-duty acting only as a concerned citizen willing to help those in need. 

Three DHS Officials Named Finalists for 2016 Service to America Medals

Three employees at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have been named finalists for the 2016 Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals, known as the Sammies: Tate Jarrow, U.S. Secret Service; Mariela Melero, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); and Ajay Bhatt, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Last Week at DHS: Commemorating Independence Day

Last week, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) activities converged on an honorable theme: commemorating Independence Day through service to our nation. Throughout the week, DHS components and employees incorporated the spirit of Independence Day into their efforts, continued to carry out the unwavering DHS mission to protect the U.S., and reflected on how their service contributes to the success of our nation.
