Statement by Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh C. Johnson and Commandant of Coast Guard Admiral Paul Zukunft on Design Award for the Offshore Patrol Cutter

The Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Coast Guard has announced that Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc., of Panama City, Florida has been awarded a contract to continue development of the Offshore Patrol Cutter. The contract includes $110.29M for detail design of the Offshore Patrol Cutter and options for production of the lead ship and up to eight follow-on cutters.

Secretary Johnson Inspects Convention Security Operations in Cleveland

Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson traveled to Cleveland with U.S. Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Administrator Peter Neffenger, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Executive Associate Director Peter Edge to review the operational security and contingency planning in preparation for next week’s 2016 Republican National Convention.

Coast Guard Crew Rescues Man who Suffered Two Month Ordeal at SeaA U.S. Coast Guard small boat crew assisted in rescuing a 29-year-old man who survived a two month ordeal at sea. Initially rescued by merchant mariners in the Southeastern Pacific Ocean, the man was cared for by these brave Coasties who coordinated his medical care, transportation, and escort to his arrival in Honolulu.

First U.S. Coast Guard aircraft unveiled at The Smithsonian Air and Space Museum collectionOn November 1, 1979, a U.S. Coast Guard crew lifted off as Rescue 1426 responding to the deadly collision of a freighter and tanker in the Gulf of Mexico and saved 22 lives.
