Secretary Johnson Views Papal Security Operations in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson traveled to Philadelphia to review the operational security and contingency planning in preparation for Pope Francis’ visit next week. Secretary Johnson has designated the Pope’s visit as a National Special Security Event (NSSE), which allows for enhanced cooperation of local, state and federal partners in establishing a safe and secure environment.

Secret Service Launches New Website and Mobile App

The United States Secret Service (USSS) announced today the launch of its newly revamped website and a free mobile application (app).  The new website and app will provide the Secret Service with a more innovative and direct way to deliver important information to the public about the agency’s missions and activities.

Last Week at DHS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) began last week by honoring the U.S. Secret Service’s 150th anniversary. On July 5, 1865, the Secret Service was created by President Abraham Lincoln. DHS celebrated the Secret Service’s history of heroic service with a 150th Anniversary Reception and a congratulatory video message from Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson.

U.S. Secret Service: Celebrating 150 Years

This week, the U.S. Secret Service celebrates 150 years of service to the nation. Initially created by President Abraham Lincoln in 1865 to investigate counterfeit currency, the Secret Service mission has expanded to the protection of U.S. and visiting foreign leaders, as well as the U.S. financial system.
