Readout of Secretary Johnson's Meeting with Qatari Attorney General Al Marri and Ambassador Al Kuwari

WASHINGTON—Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson met with Attorney General of the State of Qatar His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri and Qatari Ambassador to the United States His Excellency Mohammed Jaham Al Kuwari to discuss a range of shared homeland security-related issues, including aviation security and counterterrorism cooperation.

Secretary Johnson, Attorney General Al Marri, and Ambassador Al Kuwari reaffirmed the importance of effective information sharing in the aftermath of the tragic terrorist attacks in Brussels last week. They discussed opportunities to strengthen security cooperation between the United States and Qatar and highlighted continued efforts to enhance aviation security coordination. During the discussion, Secretary Johnson underscored U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Global Entry Pilot Program with Qatar, which permits expedited clearance for pre-approved travelers to the United States.

Secretary Johnson, Attorney General Al Marri, and Ambassador Al Kuwari continued the dialogue between the United States and Qatar on opportunities to coordinate security preparations for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Secretary Johnson also noted the strong history of homeland security and intelligence sharing cooperation between the two countries, and emphasized the importance of continuing to build upon that relationship to ensure our collective security.
