PEORIA, Ill. -- Local officials, county agencies and certain private non-profit organizations in central and southwestern Illinois have only a week left to submit a Request for Public Assistance (RPA) to possibly be eligible for federal assistance following the severe winter storm that hit the area Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. The deadline to submit the one-page RPA is March 12, according to state and federal disaster officials.
PEORIA, Ill. -- State and Federal officials will hold seven briefings to help State, eligible local governments and private non-profit organizations in 18 counties apply for federal disaster assistance in the wake of the Nov. 30 to Dec.1 severe winter storm.
WASHINGTON - The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for Illinois to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm from November 30 to December 1, 2006.

Public Assistance DefinitionsPublic Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President
Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards
