Colonel Brian E. Hastings is Commander, 47th Flying Training Wing, Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. He is responsible for Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training for United States Air Force and allied officers. Colonel Hastings commands a flying operation that exceeds 80,700 flying hours and 54,400 sorties per year. The wing operates 217 training aircraft, including the T-1, T-38 and T-6. His command responsibilities include nearly 2,800 Air Force and civilian personnel whose annual payroll nears $140 million, and the morale and welfare of a total base community exceeding 5,400 personnel. Colonel Hastings is also responsible for ensuring wing units are able to deploy in support of combat operations worldwide. In addition, Colonel Hastings is responsible for over $273 million in base property assets with an estimated total economic impact of more than $218 million on the Del Rio community.

Colonel Hastings earned his commission in 1990 from the United States Air Force Academy. He is a command pilot with more than 2,600 hours in attack and training aircraft. During his career, he has held a variety of positions, including Battalion Air Liaison Officer and Chief of Standardization and Evaluation and is a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. As a staff officer, he has held positions at the group, wing, MAJCOM, task force and Air Force levels. Colonel Hastings commanded the 51st Operations Support Squadron, Osan AB, Republic of Korea and was the Vice Commander of the 355th Fighter Wing, Davis-Monthan AFB and the Vice Commander, 9th Air and Space Expeditionary Task Force-Afghanistan. He most recently served as Deputy Director of Operations for Air Combat Command.
