Why he XLed: Gene Stamps instructed 30 T-38C Talon student training sorties, helping contribute to Laughlin's graduation of 320 aviators. Stamps led two academic training sessions where he instructed 12 students on applied aerodynamics. As the subject matter expert, Stamps led a critical discussion on T-38 aerodynamics; providing the baseline for 20 civilian training instructors. Lastly, Stamps was a Military Affairs Association sponsor for 22 classes and has served Team XL for four decades as an active duty instructor pilot and now as a civilian training instructor.
