Laughlin XLer: Senior Airman Rodolfo Chaira

Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas --

Unit and job title: 47th Civil Engineer Squadron fire protection journeyman

Why he XLed: Chaira responded to a vehicle fire as the first person on-scene and made the initial call in less than six minutes in order to save a $20,000 vehicle. As the lead firefighter during a fence fire, he conducted a salvage and overhaul to preserve the point of origin of the fire so the inspector could determine the cause. He was the 47th Mission Support Group change of command point of contact and led the daycare fire station tour that showcased equipment and fire safety to 30 children. Lastly, Chaira sorted and packed more than 1,000 boxes of food for more than 3,000 families while volunteering at the local food bank.
