ALBANY, N.Y. -- Last year, more than 1,000 deaths and more than 8,000 injuries were caused by tornadoes, floods, wildfires and other types of severe weather. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is proud to be promoting National Severe Weather Preparedness Week from Sunday, April 22 to Saturday, April 28.

March 20, 2012 - News Release

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office contract set to expire tonight. The Sheriff's Office made an agreement with FEMA in December to use its officers as security guards for the staging area where FEMA Temporary Housing Units are being stored.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- In the six months since Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee drenched the Empire state, survivors and communities have received more than $188 million in state and federal disaster assistance. This funding continues to help families and communities recover and rebuild.

Public Assistance - Dollars Approved

Public Assistance (PA): Disaster grant assistance available for communities to quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Emergency Work (Categories A-B): Work that must be performed to reduce or eliminate an immediate threat to life, protect public health and safety, and to protect improved property that is significantly threatened due to disasters or emergencies declared by the President

Permanent Work (Categories C-G): Work that is required to restore a damaged facility, through repair or restoration, to its pre-disaster design, function, and capacity in accordance with applicable codes and standards

*Dollars Approved: Assistance dollars approved but not necessarily disbursed.

*Dollars Obligated: Funds made available to the State via electronic transfer following FEMA's final review and approval of Public Assistance projects.
