NOVEMBER:
Warrior Care Toolkit
In accordance with Secretary Gates’ directive, the Department of Defense and the military services will use November to highlight the programs, services, and resources available to wounded, ill, and injured service members, their families, and caregivers. This is achieved through events, outreach, and communications designed to celebrate and honor these service members, and highlight their resilience, strength, and successes as they continue to face a multitude of challenges associated with recovery, transition, and remaining strong in the aftermath of war.
Use the information below to increase awareness about the many resources available to wounded warriors, their families, and their caregivers.
What do you need to know to effectively raise awareness about warrior care?
- It is important to sponsor events and activities that increase awareness of the significant achievements and milestones that often occur during a warrior’s recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration or transition process. Examples of these events and activities include:
- Sitting volleyball tournament
- Wheelchair rugby exhibition
- Healing arts recognition event
- Facebook town halls
- Blogs that focus on military caregivers
- Though warrior care remains a top DoD priority, there has been a steady decrease in the total population of wounded, ill, and injured service members since 2007.
