Mr. Trung Tran joined DARPA as a program manager in the Microsystems Technology Office in October 2015. Tran earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the US Air Force Academy and a Master of Business Administration degree from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. While in the Air Force, he was stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base and Fort Meade, working for the Air Intelligence Agency. In that role, he developed cryptographic chips and command and control networks, which focused on reducing the amount of time between the acquisition of sensor data and the use of that data by shooters or, more generally, weapons systems. He received four medals in recognition of his work in these areas.
For 15 years prior to joining DARPA,Tran worked in Silicon Valley developing products, among them 100G Top of the Rack Switches,1U Server Blades, and semiconductors including field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), Memory, Physical Layer Devices (PHYs), and Framers.Tran is a former Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of JEDEC, a microelectronics standards development organization, where he worked on DDR3 and FBDIMM (types of memory chips) specifications. His interests include machine learning, data analytics and non-conventional computer architecture.
