Jose Sanchez, director of Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, presents a service award to ERDC’s Dr. Lyn Hales, program manager for Monitoring Completed Navigation Projects, for 55 years of service to the nation Oct. 12. Hales was also presented with a Bronze de Fleury Medal from the Army Engineer Association for a lifetime of outstanding service and mentorship.

Developing efficient and effective protection systems for the seven species of sea turtles, which have existed since the time of the dinosaurs, continues as an ERDC research priority. With a streamlined shell design for swimming, these turtles differ from their land cousins, having no ability to retract heads and legs into their shells.
