Medical staff visit Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Children's Hospital

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- A contingent from the Dover AFB clinic paid a goodwill visit to the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Children's Hospital March 28, 2016, as part of the clinic's initiative to strengthen relationships with the network providers servicing Team Dover's patient population.

Their mission is to provide leadership, institutions and services to restore and improve the health of children through care and programs not readily available, with one high standard of quality and distinction, regardless of the recipient's financial status.

The clinical staff was received by a group of more than two dozen members of Nemours leadership team, including the chief executive of Nemours Delaware Valley Operations, Roy Proujansky, who welcomed the Dover AFB members with enthusiasm and shared some of their top specialty strengths with the group to include their neuroscience and cardiac services. Many of these specialties will now be available to dependent children who require unique medical attention.

The Dover AFB team was also given a tour of the Nemours renovated inpatient facilities. The state-of-the-art rooms were designed with the ease and comfort of the patients and their families in mind. Dr. Will Mackenzie, Chairman of the Department of Orthopedics, displayed the only indoor pediatric aquatic therapy pool in Delaware.

"Our visit to A.I. duPont reaffirmed the strong bond between our institutions and Nemours' commitment to provide world-class care to Dover AFB children and their families," said Lt. Col. Joseph Beard, 436th Medical Group medical staff chief.

Since the 436th Medical Group functions as a health clinic, it does not have certain specialty doctors on hand to treat specific needs. These patients are referred to downtown facilities like A.I. duPont to receive the specialized treatment they need. This also allows patients an avenue to receive quicker appointment times to meet their needs.

The services that Alfred I. duPont/Nemours Hospital for Children provides are important to the children of our active duty and retired members. Their dedication to the health and the well-being of our Airmen's family members is what allows our service men and women the peace of mind to focus on the mission with the knowledge that those they cherish most are receiving the best care available.
