About Us

The 423rd Medical Squadron is a small clinic based at RAF Alconbury. The 423rd MDS clinic provides routine medical and dental care for all active duty and dependents to the 501st Combat Support Wing stationed at RAF Molesworth and RAF Alconbury. The RAF Alconbury team consist of 60 personal to include active duty, general schedule (GS), contractors, Ministry of Defense (MOD), and local national direct hires (LNDH). The clinic has three flights, Medical Operations, Medical Support, and the Dental Flight. In the last few years, the Dental Flight won the 2012 and 2013 Small Dental Clinic of the Year. Also in 2013 the Medical Support Flight had an Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) winner as the United States Air Force Europe (USAFE) Pharmacy Non-commissioned Officer of the Year. In 2014, the squadron had another AFMS winner as the USAFE Public Health Noncommissioned Officer of the Year.

The Medical Operations flight provides primary care to TRICARE-enrolled patients at the medical squadron and limited military requirements to TRICARE Global Remote for a total of 4.2K beneficiaries. Referrals for specialty care can be placed through the 48th Medical Group at RAF Lakenheath or local hospitals in the National Healthcare System. With 16 assigned personnel, the flight provides the following services: Allergy, Immunization, Family Medicine, PHA/DHA, Well Baby, and Well Woman. Procedures accomplished in clinic include: battlefield acupuncture, osteopathic manipulative therapy, IUD insertion/removal, vasectomy, punch/shave biopsy, and wart treatment. The clinic averages 5.7K family health visits, 5.1K telephone consults, 3.9K immunizations, 850 PHAs, 380 DHAs, and 190 food inspections annually.

The Medical Support flight consist of pharmacy, laboratory, records and reception, Tricare, referral management, facility management, appointment line, and the Surgeon General Administer. They support healthcare by managing a unit budget of $1.7 million. The laboratory orders about 5,700 tests a year. The pharmacy fills 12,000 prescriptions with a budget of $250,000 a year. The referral management office refers out about 830 people.

The Dental Flight provides a full range of dental services for active duty military members and their families including general dentistry primarily but provide limited scope care in endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, periodontics and prosthodontics. The Dental Flight consist of three dentist, nine technicians, and one dental laboratory technician to assist in the 5,000 patient population with an average yearly production of about $1 million.
