MAY:
Vision Toolkit

Because of the great amount of time we spend in front of computers and hand-held devices, it’s even more important these days to focus on taking the proper steps to take care of our vision.

What do you need to know to effectively raise awareness about healthy vision?

  • More than 2.5 million eye injuries occur each year, though using protective eyewear can prevent 90 percent of all eye injuries.
  • Almost half of all eye injuries happen around the home, usually while doing improvement projects or playing sports.
  • More than 4 out of 5 Americans spend time in front of a computer or hand-held device.
  • Because of the incredible amount of eyestrain caused by these activities, most patients report that their eyes get tired, they get headaches later in the day, or that their vision is getting worse.
  • Time in front of screens and monitors affects ocular motility, the ability for eyes to move to certain positions, the ability to focus on near objects, and the ability to zoom out and then focus on far objects.
