SEPTEMBER:
Healthy Aging Toolkit

As the average lifespan of our population increases, it is critical that we do what we can to improve the quality of each patient’s aging process. The resources below will help to promote the opportunities for enhancing the healthcare for older adults.

What do you need to know to effectively raise awareness about healthy aging?

  • Each state has a 2020 target range for the following health indicators:
    • Obesity
    • Taking high blood pressure medications
    • Mammography within the past 2 years
    • Current smoking

Most states are ahead of schedule in hitting their targets for older adults.

  • All states, however, need improvement in the following areas:
    • Flu vaccination within the past year
    • Getting a pneumonia vaccine
    • Mammography within the past 2 years
    • Current smoking
  • There are many opportunities for enhancing quality of life. Two that have enjoyed a recent focus are:
    • Improving mobility
    • Making critical information for each patient available to each patient’s key healthcare providers
