PTSD Toolkit

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health problem that can occur after someone has gone through a traumatic event or events, such as war-related combat stress, sexual or physical assault, or a natural or man-made disaster. Because of the way this disorder can affect not only the person who suffers from it, but those who are around them, it is incredibly important that we educate and promote awareness about this condition.

What do you need to know to effectively raise awareness about PTSD?

  • Approximately 7–8% of the U.S. population will have PTSD at some point during their lives.
  • About 10% of women and 4% of men develop PTSD sometime during their lives. This is because women are more likely to experience sexual assault or child sexual abuse.
  • During any given year, 8 million people have PTSD in the U.S., though only a small portion of those have gone through a recent trauma.
