Marine Corps Base Quantico

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Section assists in the safe operation and management of daily activities in the RTA by creating dynamic Surface Danger Zones (SDZs) and Weapon Danger Zones (WDZs) for all ranges aboard the installation.  The GIS Section also assists planning for future range development and provides map services for units training aboard MCB Quantico.

The Range Management Branch GIS Section must follow specific rules and guidelines set forth by GEOFidelis, the Marine Corps-wide entity that manages GIS at all Marine Corps installations.

CAPABILITIES

• Building SDZs and WDZs using the Range Managers Toolkit (RMTK)
• Producing maps and graphics in support of various training missions
• Conducting Global Positioning System (GPS) field survey work
• Performing three dimensional and spatial analysis
• Assisting in the layout and design of new ranges and training facilities
• Developing and managing spatial databases
• Geo-coding and analyzing noise complaints
