JOPLIN, Mo. -- On February 6, households residing in Federal Emergency Management Agency mobile homes in Joplin dropped below 500, recovery officials said today. Mobile home occupancy peaked at 586 on October 3, 2011. As of February 6, 491 units are occupied "This is an encouraging benchmark of the continuing Joplin recovery," Federal Coordinating Officer Stephen Thompson of FEMA, said. "Housing in Joplin and nearby areas is coming on line and survivors are finding permanent residency."
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missourians with disaster-related unmet needs even after receiving state and federal disaster assistance now can access disaster case management services. The state of Missouri has received a grant of more than $5.3 million to help the long-term recovery of individuals and families affected by the severe storms, tornados and flooding that struck the state this spring, according to federal recovery officials.

The Public Assistance program provides grants to reimburse disaster related emergency protective measures, debris removal and repair or restoration of disaster damaged infrastructure.
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- When a destructive tornado bore down on the town of Sedalia, Mo. only days after a devastating twister struck Joplin, Pettis County residents were fortunate to have a forward thinking emergency manager who sent out warning messages by way of non-traditional communication methods such as email, Facebook and Twitter. COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Six months after the May 22 EF-5 tornado destroyed a large section of the city of Joplin, Jasper and Newton counties have received an estimated $174 million in federal assistance provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency through various programs, according to federal recovery officials.
