ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office contract set to expire tonight.

The Sheriff's Office made an agreement with FEMA in December to use its officers as security guards for the staging area where FEMA Temporary Housing Units are being stored.

"FEMA is committed to supporting the disaster recovery process in Schoharie County. We are glad this agreement with the Sheriff's Office will continue to provide employment for those officers who might otherwise have lost work after the county jail flooded last year," said Federal Coordinating Officer Philip E. Parr.

The $150,000 contract is set to expire at the end of June.

FEMA's mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
