Geocaching at Allatoona Lake can be a fun and approprite recreational activity on public lands.  Privately owned caches are allowed with persmission from the Allatoona Lake Project Management Office.  If you would like to place a geocache on public lands:


Step 1:  Complete the Application for Permit.
Step 2:  Mail/Email/ or hand deliver the Application into or office at the Address below.

Step 3: Wait for a response from our office before posting on Geocaching.com

 


Restrictions to the placement of Geocaches include but are not limited to the following:

  • In designated restricted areas.
  • If the cache, directly or indirectly, would negatively affect ecologically, environmentally, or socially sensative areas (threatened or endangered species, critical habitats, cultrual resources, tribal lands without consent, etc.)
  • In areas that may pose safety risks, sunch as unstable banks, or other potential hazards.
  • Where geocaching activities may interfere with established public uses, such as launching, picnicking, swimming, etc.
  • Below normal operating pool levels.
  • Where geocaching activities may interfere with the operation of the project.
  • In areas where the security of the project and/or public safety would be at risk.


    There are a growing number of U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Geocaches placed by the Allatoona Lake Project Management Staff in our parks to assist in spreading information about topics such as Water Safety, Habitat Awareness, Cultural Resources, etc.  All of these geocaching can be found using the links below, or by searching Geocaching.com.
