INDIAN OCEAN (June 6, 2013) - Sailors from the
guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) and the Tanzania People's
Defense Force navy's perform boarding scenario training event aboard
Gonzalez as part of a military-to-military bilateral training event where
the two navies exchanged best practices and exercised techniques of maritime
interdiction. The joint training was conducted to enhance the Tanzanian
navy's proficiencies in boarding vessels and strengthen regional maritime
security while also serving to build on the cooperative ties between U.S.
and Tanzanian maritime forces. Gonzalez, homeported in Norfolk, Va., is on a
scheduled deployment supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa area of responsibility. (U.S. Navy Photo by Lt. j.g. Jon Bullough)
