Influenza rates across EUCOM have dropped dramatically

HEIDELBERG, Germany - Stocks of H1N1 flu vaccine in Europe are not affected by the voluntary non-safety recall of pediatric vaccine announced Dec. 15 by manufacturer Sanofi-Pasteur.

Delays have occurred in production and delivery to overseas beneficiaries of H1N1 vaccine from US suppliers. TRICARE has stepped up to help mitigate this delay if military dependents wish to get vaccinated against H1N1 now rather than waiting for the DoD supply to arrive.

The CDC held the first of their two weekly H1N1 briefings Oct. 20 and said that young people continue to be hit especially hard by the 2009 H1N1 virus. More than half of the hospitalizations from 2009 H1N1 flu reported by 27 states from September 1st and October 10th were people age 24 and younger. About 23 percent of the deaths reported from 28 states during this period were in this age group.
