An important decolonization war, it was a complex conflict characterized by guerrilla warfare, terrorism against civilians, the use of torture on both sides, and counter-terrorism operations by the French Army.

USNS LCPL ROY M. WHEAT, at sea - Exercise Phoenix Express (PE09) continued in the Mediterranean this week aboard USNS Lance Cpl. Roy M. Wheat with sailors from Algeria, Turkey, Portugal and the United States and Marines from Italy using the ship for visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) exercises.
