Today, 298 people sat in the same place under the American flag and become new U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony in the Great Hall. DHS Officials visit NYOn Sunday, I joined Homeland Secretary Johnson in New York City with Mayor de Blasio, Police Commissioner Bratton, Fire Commissioner Nigro, and Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito to observe the New York Police Department’s active shooter training exercise. I am pleased that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) had the opportunity to help support this important exercise.

Statement by Press Secretary Marsha Catron on Secretary Johnson's Upcoming Trip to New York

On Sept. 19, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson will travel to New York to review ongoing security preparations in advance of the 70th United Nations General Assembly and Pope Francis’ visit next week. Secretary Johnson has designated these two upcoming events as National Special Security Events (NSSE), which allow for enhanced cooperation of local, state and federal partners in establishing a safe and secure environment.

Statement by Press Secretary Marsha Catron on Secretary Johnson's Upcoming Trip to New York

On May 7, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson will travel to New York to meet with community leaders to discuss the ongoing collaboration with DHS on civil rights and civil liberties and safeguarding local communities, as well as building partnerships between community organizations and state and local officials. Secretary Johnson will also meet with local law enforcement officials to discuss joint efforts to further community partnerships and engagement. Additional details will be forthcoming.
