IT Vital Signs

Overview

The Department of Transportation Chief Information Officer is developing an IT Vital Signs reporting tool to affect better strategic alignment of the services and allocation of resources of the Department’s information management and technology resources in order to identify business outcome and operational efficiency opportunities.

The leading indicators tool, examines on a quarterly basis, selected key performance areas where the health of the operating administration Chief Information Officer partnership are vital to fulfill the Department’s strategic business goals and Office of Management and Budget and Congressional reporting requirements.

The tool relies primarily on leading indicators of multiple elements of performance, such as the number of expired C&A, outstanding POA&Ms, and investments within 10% of cost and/or schedule variance. Quarterly measures are recorded and are reported to the Department’s Chief Information Officer Council.
